Singer-songwriter, dancer, and actor Zaida Rio began creating music at 3 by writing about the sun and moon and falling in love. However, things became serious when she joined her high school’s Songwriter’s Club and discovered catharsis in songwriting, painting heartbreak, “f*** you,” and self-redemption into her lyrics, fusing elements of bedroom pop, R&B, and indie folk. Zaida launched her debut single, “Drive,” on all music platforms in 2020, followed by her first album, “Leaving,” in 2022.
As a junior at Yale University signed to their student-run record label, 17o1 Records, she has gone on to perform throughout the New York Tri-State area from the Nuyorican Poets Café, Breaking Sound, the Yale Club of NYC, and around campus, hoping that her music may provide listeners with the same healing experience it gives her. Zaida is supported by a family of singer-songwriters (Ivan Polanco and Evening Son). She is also inspired by artists like Beabadoobee, Eloise, and Lianne La Havas.
